Course objectives
By the end of this course, students will be able to connect core Second Language Acquisition theories, such as the Input and Output Hypotheses, to practice by applying them to evaluate modern AI language tools. Learners will master the use of Large Language Models (LLMs), AI voice coaches, and adaptive spaced-repetition software to design a highly personalized language learning ecosystem. Furthermore, students will engineer strategic prompts to generate customized reading materials, simulate realistic role-plays, and receive targeted grammar feedback. The course also equips students to leverage translanguaging, strategically using their first language alongside AI tools to accelerate comprehension and bridge linguistic gaps in EFL/EMI contexts. Ultimately, students will learn to critically evaluate AI by recognizing its limitations, biases, and ethical boundaries, ensuring they maintain their own intellectual autonomy when interacting with AI-generated content.
