一、課程目標Course objectives

This course is designed for A2–B1 level students and aims to build upon the learning foundation established in the freshman basic English program. After completing the introductory English courses in their first year, students are expected to have developed a basic understanding of English as well as an initial interest in language learning. Therefore, this course seeks to further strengthen students’ confidence, motivation, and opportunities to actively use English in meaningful contexts.
Through accessible themes, guided readings, practical writing exercises, oral communication activities, and interactive classroom tasks, students will gradually develop the ability to view English not merely as an academic subject, but as a practical tool for communication and self-expression. In addition, the course will incorporate AI-assisted learning tools to help lower the barriers to English learning. Students will be introduced to AI applications for vocabulary support, sentence construction, pronunciation practice, writing revision, and self-directed review activities. By integrating AI into the learning process, the course also aims to encourage learner autonomy and increase students’ motivation for independent learning outside the classroom.
Overall, the course is designed to help foundation-level learners strengthen their English proficiency, cultivate sustained interest in language learning, and gradually develop the communicative competence and learning strategies necessary for future English courses and real-world communication contexts.

三、授課方式Teaching approach

The course will adopt a theme-based and student-centered teaching approach. Topics will be selected based on students’ interests as well as contemporary issues and trends that are relevant to their daily lives and experiences. Through guided discussions and interactive classroom activities, students will gradually build familiarity with topic-related vocabulary, expressions, and basic communication skills in English.
Each class session will include in-class activities designed to provide students with opportunities to actively practice and apply the English introduced in class. These activities may include pair discussions, group tasks, role-playing, short presentations, problem-solving exercises, and collaborative projects that encourage meaningful communication and participation. To further increase students’ exposure to authentic English usage, the course will also incorporate digital and AI-assisted learning environments. For the midterm activity or assessment, students may be guided to use platforms such as VRChat or similar interactive virtual communication tools to practice English in simulated real-world contexts and increase their opportunities for spontaneous language use.
In addition, gamified teaching strategies will serve as one of the core instructional approaches of the course. Elements such as challenges, missions, group competitions, participation rewards, interactive tasks, and collaborative problem-solving activities will be integrated into classroom instruction in order to enhance engagement, reduce anxiety toward English learning, and create a more motivating and immersive learning environment for foundation-level learners.
