一、課程目標Course objectives

The syllabus is structured as an advanced academic and practical seminar, designed to guide graduate students in analyzing how cultural heritage and local identity can be transformed into the core driving forces of sustainable tourism from the perspectives of cultural anthropology, sociology, and economics.
Cultural tourism has become an excellent strategy for countries worldwide to enhance their competitiveness under the wave of globalization. This course will guide students to understand the historical development and current state of cultural tourism. Through the teaching and discussion of relevant cultural tourism theories, supplemented by the study and discussion of practical case studies, and finally—embodying the spirit of "traveling ten thousand miles is as vital as reading ten thousand books"—incorporating International field trips in Japan and discussions at actual cultural tourism sites, this course aims to lead students to deeply reflect on the role that culture plays in tourism, as well as the cultural impacts inherent within tourism, thereby mastering the critical issues of contemporary cultural tourism.

四、評量方式Grading criteria:

1. Class Literature Review & Presentation (30%): Lead the discussion on assigned academic papers each week and write a one-page Critical Review.
2. Class Participation & Case Studies Discussion (30%): Engage in policy and strategic debates surrounding global, Taiwanese, and Japanese cases.
3. Final Term Paper/Project (40%): Write an academic-standard term paper (or research proposal). The topic must integrate cultural tourism theories and utilize qualitative research methods or systematic frameworks (e.g., systematic review or case study methodology).
