一、課程目標Course objectives

The course is oriented at informing your future academic and practical inquiry. Organization theory speaks to research in management, decision- making, strategy, microeconomics, sociology and political science. In addition, the present course differs from others in that it complements the graduate program at MBA and EMBA by promoting the dialogue between Organization Theory, Organizational Behavior and Management.
The first aim of this course is to give students an overview of the scientific literature in Organizational Behavior. We will deal with the historical development of the discipline and the main research topics of OB on the individual and group level. Doing this, the aim is to read contributions from the different disciplines contributing to OB research and to compare critically different approaches to a topic. At the end of the class, students should have an overview of the field and the different ways OB questions can be approached. 
Secondly, organizations exert a central force in contemporary work and society. From the rise of large, machine- like bureaucracies in the 19th C. to the flat, networked firms of the late 1990s, different assemblages of people and technology have produced a rich ecology of organizational forms – multinationals, religious sects, Internet companies, R&D laboratories, army squads, etc. The academic study of organizations, or “organization theory,” examines these multifarious arrangements and how they influence the life of its members, as well as the markets and societies around them.

三、授課方式Teaching approach

Active class discussion
This is a seminar course, and as such participation and dialogue is essential. The goal of each session is that you develop your own point of view of the literature under discussion and are able to articulate it to the rest of the group. To achieve this, the seminar is takes place on a round table that lets each other see the others’ face. Students are expected to do all of the required reading and be prepared to discuss the materials in class on the schedule indicated in the syllabus. To facilitate a comprehensive reading of the weekly material, readings has been kept at a maximum of one paper per session. The role of the instructor is to facilitate and direct the discussion.

四、評量方式Grading criteria:

The course grade will be based on team-based report in class (20%), mid-term (20%) and final test (20%) and reading report (20%). Class participation, which including two quizzes also accounts for another 20% of your final grade. Class participation will be graded by the instructor and your peers, since they are the ultimate beneficiaries of also discussions. As a way of rewarding students who contributes insights highly valued by their peers, each class member will be asked to cast a vote for the students whom they feel added most to the quality of class discussion.
成績分配：上課團體報告 20％，期中團體考20％，期末個人報告20％，個人學習單20%，上課參與貢獻 20%

The readings will comprise “classical” studies in the field and more recent research. A
detailed reading list with selected articles for the presentations will be provided before the trimester starts.
Seminars will consist of short introductions into each topic by the professor, presentations on research papers given by students & discussions of the literature read. Students are expected to read all the material, which will consist of original research papers and occasionally some textbook-chapters. Grading is done based on presentations and class participation.
