一、課程目標Course objectives

This is an introductory course on research inquiry processes and methodology in the field of social science, especially in education. Students are expected to read the course materials critically, comprehend the assigned course materials, evaluate the appropriateness of research methods utilized in published academic articles, as well as conceptualize and apply research methods introduced in this course to your own research project. In addition, during this course, students should begin the process of formulation your own research project and come up with a research proposal using appropriate research design. Students are especially encouraged to conduct a study using self-collected quantitative or qualitative data.

社會科學教育研究法為教育與社會科學領域所慣用之基礎研究步驟與研究方法的概論課程。本課程之教學目標如下:
1.	使學生透過研讀與討論課程指定文獻來學習與理解教育與社會科學領域慣用之基礎研究步驟與研究方法
2.	使學生透過研讀與評論已發表之教育與社會科學領域學術論文所使用的研究方法與研究設計來深化研究方法之學習
3.	使學生應用課程所學的研究步驟與研究方法於學生個人碩士論文之研究設計與研究計畫書撰寫

三、授課方式Teaching approach

1. 教師講授指定文獻: Instructor will introduce and explain some of the most widely used quantitative and qualitative research methods in the field of education and social sciences. In addition, instructor will focus on guiding students through the process of initiating, organizing, and designing of an academic research project and the process of writing up a research proposal.
2. 個人導讀指定文獻: Each student will be responsible for summarize and introduce two or more of the weekly assigned readings.
3. 課堂討論、反思與評析指定文獻: Students are anticipated to participate in classroom discussion and share their reflections on the assigned readings, as well as to critique the research methodologies utilized in the published research papers.
4. 個人研究計畫撰寫與分享: Students are expected to write up their individual research proposals and share them with the class.

四、評量方式Grading criteria:

1.	期末個人研究計畫書Research Proposal (20%): 
Each student needs to select a research topic related to international and comparative education, read the past literature about your topic, select an appropriate research design, and write up a research proposal to share with the class. 
學生需選擇一個與國際文教或比較教育相關之議題，進行研究規劃與設計，及撰寫研究計畫書，並於期末進行研究計畫口頭分享(10%)以及繳交研究計畫書(10%)。

2.	課堂文獻導讀Oral Report on Assigned Reading Materials (40%):
	Each student will be assigned several reading materials during this semester. Students need to read and comprehend the assigned materials carefully, summarize the key points, and present the assigned readings in class. Please email your assigned reading presentation files to the instructor before 11:59PM on the Sundays of the scheduled week. 10% of points will be deducted from the late assignments.
每位學生需導讀課程指定文獻。學生需詳讀、理解與分析所導讀之文獻，摘要文獻主要內容，並製作PPT，於導讀當週課堂上進行文獻導讀與評析。導讀文獻之PPT檔案需在導讀當週的星期天晚上11:59前寄給雅惠老師(yahuiluo@gmail.com；yhluo@ncnu.edu.tw)，遲交PPT檔案扣10%導讀分數。

3.	課堂討論參與Participation in Discussion (20%)

4.	文獻閱讀摘要與反思Weekly Personal Summary and Reflection on Assigned Readings (20%): 
	Students are required to turn in the summary of assigned readings and your personal reflection on it. Assignments are due one week after the discussion of the assigned readings in class (Please email the assignments before 5PM on Wednesday to my mailbox: yahuiluo@gmail.com；yhluo@ncnu.edu.tw).
學生需繳交各週指定之個人文獻摘要與反思作業 (或是依照指定作業內容撰寫)，作業需於課程次週星期三下午5點前email到雅惠老師信箱 (yahuiluo@gmail.com；yhluo@ncnu.edu.tw)。

Flexible Learning:
1.	Each student is expected to find a suitable topic for his/her final project and spend time to search for past research related to the topics to build up a research proposal. 修課學生需選擇合適的期末報告主題，搜尋資料庫尋找過去相關研究之期刊與碩博士論文，用以撰寫研究計畫書。(4 hours)
